First Student Contract Extension Approved

(Providence, RI)  --  A contract extension for First Student, the company that runs buses for Providence Public Schools, is getting initial approval.  The Providence City Council's Committee on School Department Oversight voted last night to recommend the two-year, 25-million-dollar extension, just weeks after First Student was locked in an eleven-day strike with its drivers.  Some people who attended the meeting were upset that the new contract contains language that clears the company of responsibility in the event of another labor dispute.  The full council will have to approve the new contract.
