Winter Storm Drops Half-Foot Of Snow

(Undated)  --  Rhode Island was originally only expected to get a couple of inches of snow for the first winter weather event of the season, but the impact from Thursday night's storm was a little more severe.  At least a half-foot of snow was measured in Providence, Kent and South counties, with Burrillville leading the way at nine inches, according to the National Weather Service.  The storm led to major traffic slowdowns on Interstate 95 and other major routes and was responsible for at least three-dozen crashes, but state police are reporting no significant injuries.  The morning commute is expected to be impacted by an overnight transition of snow to rain and ice.
