Governor Raimondo Vetoes Bill Dealing With Insurers Totaling Vehicles

(Providence, RI)--Governor Gina Raimondo is vetoing a bill dealing with auto insurance.The legislation would have allowed for an insurer who declares a vehicle a total loss instead of paying for repairs to be found liable for three times the amount of damages.The bill had support from the auto-body industry, but opposition from the insurance industry, according to a report from The Providence Journal.Raimondo said in her veto message that the state Department of Business Regulation can already investigate and penalize the insurance industry in cases where there are violations.
