COVID-19 MONDAY UPDATE: Two State Beaches Will Open on Memorial Day

Here is a summary of Governor Gina Raimondo's press briefing on Monday, 5/18:

  • Restaurants in RI can now open to outdoor dining. Limited to 5 persons per party. Reservations required. No more than 20 tables per restaurant. Tables must be spaced eight feet apart. Disposable or digital menus required. Person making reservation must supply contact info for purpose of potential case tracking. Other restrictions apply.
  • East Matunuck State Beach and Scarborough State Beach will open on Memorial Day with some restrictions:
    • Number of parking spots reduced. No charge for parking
    • Concessions and bath houses will not be open
    • Social distancing must be observed (6 feet)
    • No lifeguards on duty
  • Goddard State Park is now open.
  • State official seeking input from salons and barbers through a Facebook Town Hall on Monday, about the reopening of their businesses, which will take place in phase 2, targeted for some time in June.

  • 121 new cases of COVID-19. 12,795 total
  • 7 new fatalities. 506 total
  • 2,834 people tested on previous day
