Love Scam Crack Down Continues In State

A woman has been sentenced in federal court in Providence for Internet scam activity.

The Justice Department says Dominique Golden of Houston, Texas was ordered to serve six-and-a-half years in prison.

Golden admitted to orchestrating "romance scams" and banking over a million dollars.

Meantime the US Attorney Zachary Cunha announced a 32-year-old Indiana woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that she allegedly defrauded a 96-year-old Coventry widower out of nearly 80 thousand dollars.

Brittany Rakia Shawnai Lasley is charged with five counts of wire fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft.

The indictment alleges that Lasley created a social media account containing fake profile information on the internet dating site “Plenty of Fish.”

The indictment alleges that once contact with the victim was made, she went on a campaign to convince the man to provide her with money, credit and gift cards with personal identifying information on them.
