New Wind Energy Projects Approved

The Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council approved a certification this week for a new wind energy project.

The council found that "New England Wind" by Avangrid Renewables is a project that is consistent with Rhode Island coastal policies.

Avangrid apparently has combined its two previous efforts, Park City Wind and Commonwealth Wind, after it pulled out of contracts for them in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Avangrid also partially owns Vineyard Wind, which is expected to become the first-ever large-scale commercial wind farm in the United States.

The first of 62 turbines has been completed off Nantucket.
