Amo Wins Congressional District 1 Race

Democrat Gabe Amo has defeated Republican opponent Gerry Leonard in the race to succeed David Cicilline in the U.S. House of Representatives. With 80% of votes counted in RI Congressional District 1, Amo had won 63% of the votes and was called as the winner by the Associated Press.

Amo, who had worked in both President Obama and former RI Governor Raimondo's administrations, will be the first person of color to represent Rhode Island in Congress.
